TraniWreck is… TraniWROCK!

Event info: April 14, 2011 &ndash 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Thursday April 14
doors: 8pm, show: 8:30pm
our usual drag-burlesque-cabaret debauchery
followed by
a rare performance by ***COME***
dancing to DJ Chris Ewen until they kick us out!

OBERON
2 Arrow Street Harvard Square Cambridge, MA

advanced tickets as low as $15: http://bit.ly/tw_04_14

TraniWreck is the legendary, award-winning, cabaret variety show featuring genderbending irreverence: Drag, Burlesque, Aerials and Performance Art. Since 2004, TraniWreck has been the home of brilliantly revealing costumes, inconceivably long nails, facial hair of astronomic proportions, gold lamé, debauchery and more attitude than a $13 cocktail.

Indie rock band Come is at least as legendary as TraniWreck. Conceived on the banks of the Charles, between 1991 and 2001, Come spawned 4 full-length LPs and numerous singles and EPs of ferocious rock on the Matador, Sub Pop, Domino, and Beggars Banquet record labels and toured the world extensively. The band’s original lineup reunited at the invitation of Matador this past October for their 21st-anniversary celebration in Las Vegas, which was preceded by a local show in Cambridge. Recently they agreed to reunite once more at the request of their friends (and indie rock icons) Eleventh Dream Day for a show in New York City. Boston got jealous, and Come accepted an invitation to join TraniWreck to create a special event of rock and performance. While ruling nothing out, the band has no plans for further performances. This is a rare opportunity to be captivated by Come’s driving and enthralling emotional onslaught.

TraniWreck features:
Host and MC Heywood Wakefield, Johnny Blazes, Madge of Honor and Katya. Plus dancing with DJ Chris Ewen, hysterical haikus from The Haiku King, the unveiling of Cotton Candy (Mark Robinson and Evelyn Hurley)’s new TraniWreck jingle, aerial artistry by Rachel Stewart, and radical cheers benefiting MA Youth Pride from Boston Sass Attack.

The Midway, 3496 Washington St, Jamaica Plain, MA
$7 at the door, 18+
Doors: 7pm
Show: 8pm
*NEW this month!*
Dancing: 10 pm onward

Boston is notorious for jumping straight from Winter to Summer, with barely a nod to Spring.  And what better way to celebrate that microsecond of vernal bliss than with Hypothesis’s April theme: Hot vs Cold!  A truly divisive topic, there may be no rivalry more hotly contested and frigidly defended.  Are you a summer or winter baby?  Do you like your coffee steaming or iced? Do you want ice cubes or candle wax dripped on you?  Warm or cool colors? Do you have a hot temper or give the cold shoulder?  Come see our artists grapple with this conundrum; they promise to run hot and cold on you.

The evening will feature: poetry from local activist-legend Letta Neely, chamber music for the modern era from duo of misfit classical musicians Goli, (perhaps sexy) slam poetry from Boston’s own prodigal son Kit Yan (also known as the more vegan half of Good Asian Drivers, and Mr. Transman 2010), as well as performances from Boston’s most innovative vaudevillians, Johnny Blazes and Madge of Honor. The presentation of findings will be followed by a dance party to the smashing sounds of Boston’s own DJ Golden Touch of Audio Chemists.  Feature drinks, appropriately fluorescent and elixir-evocative, will be available at the bar for those scientists over 21.

NEW THIS MONTH! Hypothesis will feature a new, EARLIER start time for you folks with so-called “day jobs” on Wednesday mornings…

Hypothesis: Predator/Prey

Event info: March 22, 2011 &ndash 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

March is said to come “in like a lion and out a lamb.”  What better month for the theme PREDATOR/PREY?  This ages-old relationship has many names: the circle of life, the food chain, survival of the fittest.  There is the hunter and the hunted.  But in human relationships, are the lines quite so clearly drawn?  Are predators always villains and prey always victims?  Our artists promise to chomp, gasp, hiss, whimper, growl, run, roar, scream and otherwise explore the bounds of this duality.

The evening will feature: smut-theater from Cameryn Moore the Phone Whore, radical puppetry from Philadelphia-based “whimsycore” artist Geppetta, sexy poetry from fierce femme Idalia, modern dance from Marsha Parrilla/Danza Orgánica as well as performances from Boston’s most innovative vaudevillians, Johnny Blazes and Madge of Honor. The presentation of findings will be followed by a dance party to the smashing sounds of Boston’s own DJ Golden Touch of Audio Chemists.  Feature drinks, appropriately fluorescent and elixir-evocative, will be available at the bar for those scientists over 21.

CD Release Party for Zayde Buti’s New Album

Event info: March 28, 2011 &ndash 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Madge of Honor and I have the great privilege of supporting and performing with our friend Zayde Buti at his CD release party at the end of this month!  Zayde has been a guest at Hypothesis and The Buttcracker, and has brought some of the funniest, oddest stuff we’ve had on our stage yet.  I once got to see him lead an entire audience at Jacques Cabaret through a guided meditation of eating raisins– this guy is a genius– and he makes me and Madge look positively mainstream!

Zayde’s work revolves around identity and food issues, and promises also to focus on positivity and spirituality in his performances.

Details are still to-be-confirmed for this show, but rumored to be involved are local electro-dance-rock stars Lovewhip and one-man band Sean Revoltah.

Monday March 28, 9 pm – 1 am
performances in two sets exact times TBA
The Enormous Room
569 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA

hosted by DJ Flack and Wayne & Wax under the auspices of Beat Research, a weekly electronic music night
