Boston's most investigative performers, Prof. Honor and Dr. Blazes

HYPOTHESIS
a night of inventive performance
From the minds of two of New England’s oddest and most ingenious variety performers comes an event that blends intelligent art-making with high-glam kitsch. Johnny Blazes and Madge of Honor take a Bunsen Burner to the Boston performance scene with Hypothesis, a new monthly show premiering at The Midway on Tuesday September 21, 2010. Each month, a new group of artists will present work based on a challenge posited by fellow scientists Prof. Honor and Dr. Blazes. These challenges will provide an opportunity to ask questions, test new approaches, and make work that fascinates.
In the premiere installment of Hypothesis, art/scient-ists will explore the notion of “re-invention.” They will present a classic work of theirs paired with a re-invention of that same work: a shift in mood, a different perspective, identity, or media, or any other method that the performers might find to subvert themselves.
The night will feature experimental results in the form of burlesque and drag from the sensuous and savvy Kirby Bits (Bitches of Destiny), object manipulation from the dashing and dexterous Ben Reynolds (The Boston Circus Guild), moving music from the potent and passionate Simón Rios, poetry and dance from the cool and commanding Alicia Greene, as well as performances from Hypothesis’s lead investigators, Johnny Blazes and Madge of Honor. The presentation of findings will be followed by a dance party to the smashing sounds of Boston’s own Audio Chemists. Feature drinks, appropriately fluorescent and elixir-evocative, will be available at the bar for those scientists over 21.
